Sustainable Campus: Green Cleaning at UC

At 4am every week-day morning, 100 cleaners start their day working to make sure that campus offices and teaching spaces are kept to a high level of cleanliness. Recently, the Cleaning Services team has started to contribute to UC’s journey towards becoming more sustainable by introducing green cleaning techniques and products, which avoid or minimise the use of chemicals. This is not only better the environment, but also foClean greeningr the cleaning staff and those using UC spaces.

For instance, they are now using Microfiber cleaning cloths in some of UC’s buildings and this will be rolled out across the entire campus over time. Microfiber cloths work by trapping dirt and bacteria, lifting them off surfaces. Because of this, chemicals are either not required, or not required to the same degree.

UC has achieved a 78% decrease in the use of certain chemicals in some areas! For more information about other green cleaning practices at UC, visit this link.
